Terms of Play

Last updated: 9 October 2026

These are the rules for using The Council. We kept them short and plain. By playing, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use The Council.

1. Who we are

The Council is made by NovaVita Games, a private, non-commercial project run by M J C Huys. NovaVita Games is not a registered company yet. As soon as it is, its details will appear here.

2. The game

The Council is a social deduction party game in the tradition of Mafia and Werewolf. You can play solo against bots, host a party in one room, or play online with voice chat. Lying to other players about your role is part of the game. Being cruel to them is not.

The Council is free. There are no ads and nothing to buy. If we ever add paid features, we will tell you the price and the terms first, and you will never pay for anything without choosing to.

3. Who can play

4. Your account

5. Fair play

Bluff, accuse, defend, vote. Play hard. But keep it a game. These are not allowed, in names, in voice chat or anywhere else in The Council:

6. Voice chat

Online games use live voice. It is never recorded by us. Treat the table the way you would in a room with friends:

7. Reporting abuse or illegal content

If a player breaks these rules, or you come across anything you think is illegal, tell us:

We read every report, confirm we got it and let you know what we decided. Hosts can also remove players from their table before the game starts. If someone is in danger, contact the police first (112 in the EU).

8. What we may do

To keep the game fair and safe, we may change an offensive name, remove a player from a table, or suspend or close an account. We act in proportion to what happened and look at every case by hand. We use no automated moderation. Unless the law stops us, we tell you what we did and why. If you think we got it wrong, reply to that email and we will look at it again.

9. Ending

10. The service

We work hard to keep The Council running smoothly, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of bugs. Party and online games need an internet connection. We may improve, change or remove features. If a change takes away something important, we will tell you in advance.

You have the legal rights every consumer in the EU has for digital content and services, including the right to a game that works as described. Nothing in these terms takes those rights away.

11. Who owns what

The game, its rules engine, art, characters, texts, sounds and code belong to NovaVita Games. You may use The Council for your own, non-commercial play. Please do not copy, resell or modify it, or take it apart, except where the law allows you to.

You are welcome to stream or post videos of your own games, as long as the other players at your table agree to being shown or heard.

Your name stays yours. You allow us to show it to other players inside the game, for as long as your account exists.

12. Liability

The Council is a free game. We are liable for damage we cause on purpose or through gross negligence, and wherever else the law says we must be. Beyond that, and as far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect damage, such as lost progress or lost time. We are not responsible for what other players say or do, but we do act on reports. Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.

13. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we update this page and the date at the top. For important changes we tell you in the game at least 14 days before they take effect. If you do not agree with the new terms, you can delete your account before then. If you keep playing after that, the new terms apply.

14. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Dutch law. If you live in another EU country, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of that country. Please talk to us first. Most things can be fixed with one email. If we cannot work it out, you can take the dispute to the competent court in the Netherlands, or to the court where you live.

If any part of these terms turns out to be invalid, the rest still applies.

15. Contact
