Your card, the night, the basement, the trial. A quick walk through a real game, then try it yourself.

Ways to play

One room, a couch each, or just you.

Party, same room

2 to 12 friends, each on their own phone. Only a few of you? Bots take the empty seats. Join with a five-letter code, and everyone taps at night, so nobody gives themselves away.

How a day works

Night. Dawn. Talk. Trial.

Night

Everyone looks at their phone. The Mafia picks a target, the Doctor guards a door, the Detective investigates.

Dawn

The town learns who was taken. The Detective sees their result in secret.

Intel

Anyone may claim what they found. The real Detective can. So can a liar.

Talk

Phones down. Argue it out face to face.

Trial

Two voices on the same name put someone on the stand. The table votes: guilty or not guilty.

The cards

Four roles. Forty years of lies.

Mafia

Mafia

The informed minority. You know your family. Each night, choose who disappears.

Detective

Detective

Each night, learn one player's true side. Saying it out loud makes you a target.

Doctor

Doctor

Guard one door every night. Once per game, pull someone out of the basement.

Villager

Villager

No powers. Your eyes, your ears and your vote.

Solo mode

A table that argues back.

Fifteen hand-drawn characters, each with a personality. They only know what their seat knows, build real suspicions, lie as Mafia, counter-claim fake detectives and call you out when you get it wrong.

A table that argues back.
Taken is not the end.
The twist

Taken is not the end.

The Mafia don't kill, they kidnap. Crack the lock in the basement two nights running and you walk back in at dawn, proven innocent. Nobody just sits and waits.

Inside the game

Hand-drawn noir, made for your phone.

Questions

Before you sit down

Is The Council free?

Yes. Free to play, no ads and nothing to buy.

Do I need to download anything?

No. It runs in your browser on any phone or computer. You can add it to your home screen, and iPhone and Android apps are coming soon.

Do I need an account?

No. Type a name and you're in. Add an email later if you want to keep your record on every device.

How many players do I need?

Just 2 for a party in one room: bots take the empty seats. Online games are 5 to 12 people. Alone? Play solo against a full table of bots.

How long is a game?

Usually 10 to 20 minutes, depending on how long your table argues.

Is it like Mafia or Werewolf?

Yes, it's the same classic game of hidden roles, with a few twists of its own, like the basement escape.

Is my voice recorded? What do you keep about me?

No. Online voice chat is live only and never recorded. We keep your name, your record and an email if you add one, on our own server in the EU. No ads, no trackers, and you can delete your account in the app at any time.
